Winter Theme

Our December theme of Winter, introduced us to some new artists including Tom Thomson, a Canadian artist who painted from 1914 - 1917 and died in mysterious circumstances whilst canoeing, Laurits Anderson Ring, a Danish artist, Caspar David Friedrich a member of the German Romantic Movement and Peter Rumney, one of the NE Painters Group. We also looked at work by Lowry, Kandinsky, Munch, Whistler and Hockney but many of us chose work by the Impressionists, specially Monet who painted over 140 winter landscapes and changed the way shadows were painted by depicting them as blue - grey and not black. The meeting was lively as usual and we all enjoyed discussing the wide variety of paintings.
