Music For Pleasure, This group is now full, would you like to start a group 2? Contact Heather our Group Co-ordinator.

We meet on the afternoon of the fourth Tuesday of each month at the home of one of our members.

EXCEPTIONS
The date may change if we have an outing, special event or if there is a clash with other MU3A meetings. We will also not meet in exceptionally bad weather.

At each meeting one member of the group introduces a music related "topic" entirely of his or her own choice. Following a brief introduction we listen to selected pieces related to the topic. Generally we do not know in advance what we are to hear and that element of surprise is an extra dimension to our enjoyment.

There is no constraint on what we cover; it can be a specific piece, style, instrument, composer, artist, time period, country etc. It can be classical, jazz, pop, C&W, music from shows; “anything goes!”

We have had two, very successful, outings. The first was to the Handel/ Hendrix Museum, the second to the Musical Museum at Kew.
We did not meet in December but we all enjoyed a seasonal meal kindly arranged by Nyria.

Date: 28th January 2020
Topic: Desert Island Discs
Details:
The music at this month’s meeting was a selection from all members of the group as their “Desert Island Discs.” Everyone made some selections of music that was, for some reason, special to them. As on the previous occasion when we used this meeting format, the selection was varied but, without exception, was greatly enjoyed by all.
The selections played were:
New York New York by Frank Sinatra
She by Charles Aznavour
Without You - Harry Nilsson
For All We Know - Ray Conniff
Leaving on a Jet Plane - John Denver
Kate Melua - Nine Million Bicycles
Louis Armstrong - Mack the Knife
Barbra Streisand - I Know Him So Well
Oscar Petersen – got you under my skin
Colm Wilkinson - Bring Him Home (from Les Mis)
Chris Barber and Jazz band - High Society
Because - sung by Mario Lanza
The Nuns Chorus from Casanova - sung by Elizabeth Schwarzkopf
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 2 - 2nd movement Adagio Sostenuto
Grieg Piano Concerto - 2nd movement
Stranger on the Shore - Acker Bilk
Elgar Cello Concerto - Final Movement
Credo from Mozart Mass in C minor
Down by the Salley Gardens – sung by John Rutter Singers

Hello, I said Hello....

Yes we are still open, Its about time for a change of attitude.... Things will be a long time getting back to the old normal so let's get busy being positive and planning for our continuing Meopham U3A future.
Group contacts have been emailed by Heather and me, (Gus) asking for information about your groups and your website page and if not much has happened PLEASE be courteous and at least reply  as it all helps us to understand how our U3A is coping.
Face to face meetings of any type are going to be difficult as we all have our own "Bubbles" to feel safe in but online group quizes, coffee mornings or just a phone call can be helpful for many who miss personal contact.
Help is available and dont be scared to ask / email someone on committee who will point you in the right direction and for many try asking grandchildren for help, I do!!
As you can see from this list many of the groups are keeping the members informed of what is going on.
