MEOPHAM U3A EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2019-2020 (Elected on 9/07/2019):

Lionel Patterson - Chair

As the 2019 Chair for Meopham U3A, here is a little of my background.
Born in 1948 at Hillside Avenue, Gravesend, I have lived mostly in Kent apart from spending two and a half years living and working in Lyon, France in the early 80’s. We have lived in Meopham since 1998.
I am married to Sharon and between us we have six children and nine grandchildren (at the last count)!
My last role before retiring from regular work was as Managing Director of a local Marketing Support and Graphic Design Company.
Prior to this role I was a Director of two other companies in similar fields of industry.
I enjoy the contact with people and working with teams and I am hoping that I can put my business experiences to good use during my term as Chair.
My interests range from Art, Music, Engineering/Motorcycles, Archery, Fishing and model boats; when time permits!
I am happy to discuss any suggestions or queries that occur so please don’t hesitate to speak to me or email me at the U3A address.

Lynda Bolton - Vice Chair

As a newcomer to Kent moving to New Ash Green in Feb 2018 to be near family. I like meeting people and getting out and about. Retired Admin Manager whose last Company was Bosch.

Ken McEwan - Treasurer

committee mcewanken2

Ken McEwan Ken, who lives in Longfield, is originally from Glasgow. Before retirement he spent over fifty years working in computers - mainly as a manager or consultant - & worked hard to get the best out of his staff. He has had many interests outside work & also held various voluntary positions locally, giving him plenty of experience in governance. In addition to Meopham U3A, he is also a member of the Gravesend branch.

He is a strong believer in the U3A's underlying principle that activities should not only help members to learn but also be fun!

Ann McEwan - Secretary

committee mcewanann2Ann McEwan Ann joined Meopham U3A last year, mainly because of its friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Her interests are wide and varied: music, history, art & walking to mention a few. She feels that the opportunities for her to learn more in U3A are endless. She is currently a member of our Italian, London Walks , London Visits & Kent Villages Groups.

Hello I’m Di Fenton.
The new Membership Secretary, I also love London Trips Art Galleries, wine and books.
I joined U3A out of boredom and curiosity and I really like their belief that life is for learning and never stops!
Please contact me or any of the committeefind my details on the wensite.
We will always try to help!

Laura Adams - Assistant Treasurer

I've been an active member of Meopham U3A since joining in August 2017. It has been a fabulous opportunity to broaden my knowledge through new activities, whilst meeting so many interesting people and making new friends. I'm currently a member of Canasta, French, Wine Appreciation 3, National Trust, and member and Group Contact for Money Matters. I was elected to the main Committee in July 2018 and am currently Assistant Treasurer looking after the finances for social events and outings

Alison Hillman - Speaker Programme

committee hillmanalisonfinalAlison Hillman I have been an enthusiastic member of Meopham U3A since it started in 2015 and although I have not been able to keep up with all my interests I have enjoyed being part of the walking, craft, quilting and gardening groups as well as the bee watch. I also belong to the Painting and Drawing group and have been the coordinator for the last two years. As part of the outings group I have helped to organise outings to :-The Houses of Parliament, Portsmouth dockyard and Arundel Castle.
I really value being a part of this friendly, lively and supportive organisation.

Heather Wright - Groups Coordination Team Leader

committee wrightheather2Heather Wright I am a retired teacher, wondering how I ever found time to go to work as my days are usually pretty busy. Apart from cycling and yoga at the Cyclopark and trying to fit in a daily walk, I sing with the Gravesend Rock Choir. I am Group Co-ordinator for the Art Appreciation group and enjoy being part of the Singing, History and Book Groups.

Lesley Reid - Committee Member

I moved to Meopham in 2000, before retiring in 2013 from a career working with computers starting in the days of Punch cards (please don't drop them!!) until using a laptop on your desk. I progressed from the design side into Data Analysis, with software programmes such as Microsoft Excel  and Access.
I currently attend Yoga and Pilates classes in the village, which helps my skiing during the winter months in Europe.
In the U3A,  I am a member of the Cribbage and Painting & Drawing groups.

Hello, I said Hello....

Yes we are still open, Its about time for a change of attitude.... Things will be a long time getting back to the old normal so let's get busy being positive and planning for our continuing Meopham U3A future.
Group contacts have been emailed by Heather and me, (Gus) asking for information about your groups and your website page and if not much has happened PLEASE be courteous and at least reply  as it all helps us to understand how our U3A is coping.
Face to face meetings of any type are going to be difficult as we all have our own "Bubbles" to feel safe in but online group quizes, coffee mornings or just a phone call can be helpful for many who miss personal contact.
Help is available and dont be scared to ask / email someone on committee who will point you in the right direction and for many try asking grandchildren for help, I do!!
As you can see from this list many of the groups are keeping the members informed of what is going on.
